Just a few short years ago Chimwabvi school had a single classroom consisting of a raised grass roof on sticks. If it was rainy or windy children could not attend school as they would get wet and cold and the grass shelters often flooded.
But the school continued despite its lack of buildings, the community wanted a local school and had convinced local government to permit them to start it. With a headteacher and two classroom teachers the school started,
Many rural schools in our area have real difficulty with teacher attendance as they are allocated to a school where they live miles away and cannot afford the transport, often there is no option for living close by. As a result the next phase of development at Chimwabvi school will be teachers housing. Now the school boasts 3 fit for purpose classroom blocks and a fully stocked library. Something we believe Steve would be very proud of and the community are enormously grateful for.
Our dear friends Richard and Helen came out last year and shared their expertise up-skilling our expanding carpentry and building teams. They have shared their knowledge on manufacturing laminated beams. Beams that are far superior to the rudimentary timbers that were used before. As a result all our classroom blocks and libraries are now built with these beautiful beams and our carpenters have new life skills.
