What a joy to see the Horton CDSS opening. September 2019 has seen the start of the 4th secondary school across the two educational zones we work in.
There are 1,200 secondary school places serving 16,500 children in 22 primary schools.
Only 15% of children in standard 8 with obtain places in the local secondary schools. By adding one secondary school to the area we are increasing the statistic to 20% of local pupils can now be awarded a place at a local day secondary school.
The Horton CDSS has an intake of 50 students a year, across four years. The first year intake was this September with 25 girls and 25 boys starting form 1, next year they will progress to form 2 and another 50 children will be awarded a place in form 1 and so the school will grown year on year for four years and then the normal cycle of children starting and graduation will commence.
There has been much excitement from students who have been watching the school build from 2017 and now they are inside the buildings learning!
A huge thank you to Noble foods who have funded the build and continue to support the running of the school alongside the Malawi Government.
